Is Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday? Tom Holland isn't in the announced cast, and here's why a Spidey appearance is unlikely - plus the multiverse loophole that keeps hope alive.
He’s one of the most-searched names attached to this film - and one of the most conspicuous no-shows. When Marvel unveiled the Doomsday cast on that record-breaking 275-million-view livestream, the name cards kept coming: the Fantastic Four, the old X-Men, the Thunderbolts, Loki, even a secret Doctor Strange. Peter Parker never appeared.
Why he’s sitting on the bench
The reason is boringly practical: Tom Holland is busy being Spider-Man somewhere else. His next solo film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is his priority, and shooting a lead role in one movie while squeezing into a 60-hero crossover shot in the same window is a logistical nightmare.
There’s also the ownership knot. Spidey is co-owned by Sony and Marvel Studios, so every time he crosses into an Avengers film, two studios have to shake hands on it. That’s a deal, not a formality - and deals for a movie this stuffed aren’t struck lightly.
The door that’s still cracked open
And yet - this is a multiverse movie that already proved it can hide a heavyweight. Doctor Strange’s own actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, publicly claimed he wasn’t in it, then admitted: “Don’t ever believe anything I say.” If Marvel can bury Strange, it can bury a Spider-Man cameo behind the same wall of denials.
So the honest read: no announcement, real scheduling walls, but a studio that treats surprise Spidey appearances as its favourite party trick.
